A once-in-a-generation landscape.
The Rothbury Estate sits in the heart of Northumberland and covers more than 3,800 hectares of rolling moorland, woodland, hidden valleys and open skies. It is the largest continuous block of land to come to the market in Britain in fifty years, and its sale is a genuine once-in-a-generation moment: kept together, it becomes one of the largest areas anywhere in England given over to nature's recovery. Broken up and sold piece by piece, that chance disappears for good.
Three reasons this land matters.
The Wildlife Trusts, together with Northumberland Wildlife Trust, have already secured the Simonside Hills section of the estate. The appeal now aims to raise £30 million by September 2026 to protect the remainder, and more than £20 million has been raised or pledged so far.
Wildlife
Moorland alive with skylarks and curlews, woodland that is still home to red squirrels, and rivers where salmon run upstream.
People
A working rural landscape with farms, walking routes and open country, and a community whose livelihoods and daily life are rooted in the land.
Heritage
Around 6,000 years of human history across the estate, from prehistoric cup-and-ring rock carvings to Iron Age hill forts.

Every donation goes towards keeping this landscape whole. Donations made during August are being matched by The Dixon Foundation and Ringtons, up to a total of £100,000 — so a gift made this month goes twice as far.
